About

So what is Back In The Card Game?  As a kid I collected baseball cards, I had a ton of them.  Any money I would make went towards cards.  My heyday of card collecting was between 1981 and 1993.  I bought packs here and there in the last 20 years or so but to me the market just seemed overwhelmed with card companies, inserts, short prints, etc. and it didn’t seem to be the hobby I used to love.  About two months back I bought a pack of 2013 Topps Opening Day at Wal-Mart and it seems the bug bit me!  So I am Back In The Card Game!

I am putting limits on what I am collecting and not trying to collect it all!  A mistake I had made in the past and I am sure many have made.  I started with 2013 Topps Series 1, base set plus a few of the insert sets I think are cool.  As of May 24, 2013 my 2013 Topps Series 1 base set is complete.  I am concentrating on the 2013 Topps Opening Day set now and waiting for the release of 2013 Topps Series 2 which is estimated as June 10, 2013. In the future I may attempt to complete some Topps sets from previous years but that is a ways off.  For now I have started to compile some cards from the 1974 Topps set which is the year I was born and can hopefully build that one up!

I am also collecting a few of my favorite players.  The primary player I am collecting is Will Clark (San Francisco Giants, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles and St. Louis Cardinals).  Growing up he was my favorite player and one of the reasons I became a San Francisco Giants fan in the mid 1980’s.  Other players in my collection include Bo Jackson, Jim Abbott, Wally Joyner, Dale Murphy, Harmon Killebrew.

Other collections will include any San Francisco Giant from any year, any card type!  I just added a few Milestone Collections to my list of collections.  These include 500 Homerun Club, 3,000 Hit Club, 300 Win Club and 3,000 Strikeout Club.  I will attempt to the get the Topps card of each player from the year they joined each of the their clubs.  A few more collections I am considering include the Most Valuable Player, Cy Young and Rookie of the Year Award Collections.  Will be similar to the Milestone Collections where I will search out the Topps card of each player from the year they won the award.

Back In The Card Game will be a way to share my adventures in card collecting and to blend card collecting with a little history of the game and some current events.  GO GIANTS!
