Where Does The Time Go?

time-fliesHas it been a week since I posted anything???  Yes it has!!!  Time flies when your having fun . . . or just working your butt off.  I have a made a few card acquisitions the last few days.  Got a package from an eBay purchase with a variety of Will Clark cards on Monday.  Stopped by Wal-Mart tonight to pick up a few things and grabbed two jumbo packs of Topps Opening Day cards.  Haven’t looked yet but I think I pulled 8-9 cards I needed for my base set.  Will examine more closely tomorrow and will be posting about that and the Will Clark cards.  Good night!

Blog Look

I have designed and maintained a few websites the past few years and it seems every few months I get tired of the look and want to redesign them.  The same is happening here!  Uh-oh!  I came across a new (to me) blog yesterday, all the way to the backstop. . . and I love the use of the classic San Diego Padres colors.  I believe the colors are garish brown and gold.  The San Diego Padres throwback jerseys and old school logo are one of my favorites from the past but I might be in the minority.  Maybe it is just me and the blog creator, Marcus!  Check out the Cameron Maybin card for an example of the throwback jersey with the original logo underneath.

So what does this mean for my Back In The Card Game?  Maybe next time you visit you will see a new design and some new colors . . . maybe Black, Orange and Cream?  GO GIANTS!

Trading Card Blogs

So after getting back into baseball card collecting I discovered something magical . . . TRADING CARD BLOGS!  The internet being somewhat fairly new, my kids never knew life without it but I did, I didn’t have this tool when I was a kid.  So imagine my amazement when searching for some info about cards I came across my first blog dedicated to collecting cards!  This blog was Dime Boxes – The Low-End Baseball Card Collector’s Journey.  Nick does a great job and actually inspired me to start my own blog chronicling my adventures in this hobby.  Thanks Nick!  My wife says thank-you also but I think hers is more sarcastic!  Since then I have searched for additional blogs to visit, I have found some real good ones and some not so good ones.  So far some of my favorites besides Dime Boxes are 2 by 3 Heroes, Lifetime Topps project, and My Sports Obsession which you can also find in my blogroll on the right hand side of my blog.  I am always looking for more blogs so I might just come across yours soon and add you to my Blogroll.  If you have a blog you can save me some time and just send me the link at!

Back In The Card Game

will_clark_1987_toppsSo what is Back In The Card Game?   After many years of being out of the baseball card collecting game, I am back!  I can remember buying my first pack of baseball cards back in 1983.  Back then there was three main companies – Topps, Fleer and Donruss.  It pretty much stayed that way until Score showed up in 1988 and Upper Deck in 1989.  From 1987 to around 1991 was my heyday in the card collecting game and I pretty much had every card that came out.  I collected a lot of differant players but my favorite was San Francisco Giants 1st baseman, Will Clark.  I had a binders and boxes full of cards!  Shortly after 1991, I got out of the game.  It seemed that card collecting was becoming too much of a business for grown men and less of a hobby for kids and in my opinion there were too many companies producing sets and the price of cards was getting out of hand.  Over the years I may have bought a pack or two of football cards here and there but cannot remember buying anything related to baseball.  So why did I get back in the game?  I was walking by the card section in Wal-Mart and saw the 2013 Topps Series 1 packs with Prince Fielder on the packs and thought why not, and grabbed a pack.  I was really impressed with the 2013 Topps card design and the look so I decided to buy a few more packs.  Those packs turned into a couple of Jumbo Packs, which then turned into a couple of Blaster Boxes and I was hooked.  So I am back in the game.  I am concentrating on finishing the base set of the 2013 Topps Series 1 and then will start branching out to other series like Topps Heritage and pulling my old cards out of storage to see what I have still!

Additionally, from time-to-time I will post some stuff about whats happening on the field in baseball.  So enjoy and thanks for visiting!
